Skin Growths

We get many different kinds of skin growths for various reasons. The causes differ for every type of skin growth. Skin growths are mal functioning of the blood vessels. Sometimes various reasons cause the skin cells to overgrow and produce extra meat. Skin growths are most of the time benign but they can be cancerous too if not treated and exposed to dangerous environment. These benign skin growths are harmless and painless unless irritated. They can also be removed from the body in many ways. Here are some types of skin growths.

*Skin tags or acrochordon and cutaneous papilloma are very common skin growths. They appear mostly in the eyelids, neck, groin, under the breasts and the armpits. They are naturally harmless and painless but can be irritated easily. Obesity and hormonal changes are the known causes of skin tags requiring skin tag removers.

*Moles are small skin marks caused by pigment producing cells in the skin. Moles can be flat or raised, smooth or rough, and some contain hair. Moles may appear anywhere on the body and are dark brown or black, flesh-colored, red, or yellow. Moles can change with time and often respond to hormonal changes. Non-cancerous (benign) moles are usually symmetrical, have smooth borders, have uniform color but there are some moles that can turn cancerous.

* Seborrheic Keratoses (barnacles) are wart like skin growths that most frequently located on the face, neck, chest, shoulders, or back, but may appear singly or in large numbers anywhere on the body. Color is usually yellow, brown, or black, but other colors are possible. The surface may be slightly raised or flat and may be rough or smooth. Shapes may be round or oval with a “pasted on” appearance.

*Dermatofibromas: these skin growths are small, firm, red or brown bumps caused by an accumulation of the soft tissue cells under the skin. They often occur on the legs and may itch. They may also become itch and can be removed surgically.

* Dermoid cyst: this is also a benign tumor which is made up of hairs, sweat glands, and sebaceous glands. Some internal dermoid tumors may even contain cartilage, bone fragments, and teeth.

*Freckles: these are darkened, flat spots that typically appear only on sun-exposed areas of the skin. Freckles are most common in people with blond or red hair. No treatment is necessary for freckles.

*Keratoacanthomas: these benign skin growths are round, flesh-colored growths that have a crater that contains a pasty material. These growths tend to appear on the face, forearm, or back of the hand. They usually disappear after a couple of months, but may leave scars.
