Removing Moles With Surgery

There are some moles that are dangerous to us because they are cancerous and will cause much bigger problems besides giving us a new look. That is why man doctors and researchers have designed different ways to remove these moles. One of the most common method used is surgery.

Before you decide you go ahead with mole surgery you should talk about it with your dermatologist or doctor. Tell them which mole you would like to remove, what will happen during the procedure, the risks involved during the surgery, and how much it will cost you. If you decide that this is not what you want to do then they can inform you about the other alternatives to removing the mole.

Different Surgery Methods

Cauterization Method
During this procedure the doctor will use a cautery tool to burn the mole away. There are no stitches required when using this method because the mole will be burned and sutured.

Excision Method
The mole is lifted and removed through the use of a scalpel for moles that could be cancerous. Doctors will use a medical blade that is used to remove the mole and the skin surrounding it. Stitches will then placed on the surface of the skin and will be removed at a later time.

Shaving Method
This surgical method is mostly used for moles that are protruding. Most doctors will not choose this method for atypical moles because it may leave mole cells underneath the skin. When this happens the mole can grow back. During this procedure the mole will be lifted and then removed with a scalpel. This will leave the area flush with the skin that surrounds it. They will then use an electrical instrument that will burn the area in order to help stop the bleeding. After this is done the patient will be given a topical antibiotic to the wound in order to reduce the risk of any infection. It is then bandaged up.
